What counts as a YouTube view?

A view is when a viewer deliberately initiates the play of a video on their device. If they watch for at least 30 second, it counts. It’s that simple! Here is an easy way how you can get more views

You can play your video as a view.

Each viewing counts as a new view if a viewer views your video more than once. Youtube will detect if a viewer refreshes the video multiple times to attempt to cheat the system.

All views of embedded Youtube videos and Youtube videos shared on Facebook will be counted.

Live views are counted on YouTube, too.

Youtube analytics are updated every day or two, so if you’re not seeing an instant reflection of your activity, check back later.

Youtube views don’t count.

Youtube’s algorithm is designed to disregard any plays that might look like they were automated. It simply wants to count how many times your video was watched by a human being.

These views, whether a bot or user refreshes a video repeatedly or if a website autoplays a movie, are and not added to your total view counts.

Globally, people watch over one billion hours of YouTube every single day. Here’s how you can stand out and grab some of these eyeballs.

1. Make sure your YouTube skills are up-to-snuff

If you’re aiming to optimize your YouTube marketing strategy, you want to get precise and ruthlessly selective about your goals–and the content that will get you there.

Because you’re not making videos for everyone. Your audience is the reason you’re here.

Yoga with Adriene is a success because she creates very specific videos with titles such as “Yoga for Joy”, “Yoga for Courage” and even Spanish versions. Although she is just one of thousands of Youtube yoga instructors who show people how to do poses, her inclusive concepts and approach have made her a popular choice. She has almost 10,000,000 subscribers.

3. Research your video and increase its search ranking

YouTube is a social platform. But it also serves as a search engine. YouTube SEO is one of the best strategies to get more views. optimizing your videos for search.

This means that your video should rank near the top of YouTube’s search results when your target viewer types your keywords. This means that you must know what your audience wants–tutorials or inspiration, entertainment, etc.

Ranking in search results is a great way to attract new viewers, not just subscribers.

This is not an easy task. What can you do to increase your YouTube videos’ search rank?

Research. You’re going to want to use a tool like Google Keyword Planner (note that you’ll need to set up a Google Ads account) to do two things:

These keywords can be used in your metadata (i.e. your video title, tags and video description text, subtitles).

Remember that the algorithm does not care about whether your video is “good”, but if it’s desired by a particular user. Users want to see “good” videos.

4. Metadata can be used to recommend a video after it is popular

Take a look at the most watched videos in your niche to help you get more YouTube views.

Take a look at the most popular video of your top competitor. Go to their video library, and sort by “most-popular.”

YouTube’s primary goal is to keep users on YouTube for as long as they can (so that they see as many ads) The algorithm’s task is to show viewers one (hopefully attractive) video after the other.

YouTube is able to determine what YouTube users might like. This is what the algorithm considers:

Video clips that are often viewed together
Videos that the user has seen in the past
Videos that are topically related (which may require some keyword finessing!)
This is the only thing you can control.

Before you copy-and-paste metadata from a popular video and apply it to your video, think about who your audience is. They won’t be able to watch the same video twice. Perhaps the first video raised new questions or enticed you to explore a different angle. What can you do to add value to the video they just saw?

5. Custom thumbnails can increase your views

When your potential viewers are in discovery mode–skimming through search results and recommendations–thumbnails are a major part of what they decide what to watch.

There is so much advice out there that graphic designers should avoid — screaming fonts and cluttered information. Let’s be objective. What are the characteristics of an effective thumbnail?

It should be clear and precise about the video. YouTube will not approve of thumbnails that mislead viewers into clicking. YouTube will also know if you lose your viewer’s attention and stop watching. This will not be liked by the algorithm.

It is as easy as choosing a bright colour to “stand out”. You can also make sure that your huge hi-res face doesn’t make a strange expression under good lighting. If your niche is filled with shrill, high-key visuals then the best way for your channel to stand out is to be the calm, minimalist voice that reason.

6. Create playlists to multiply your views

YouTube video playlists can be organized and created in a way that minimizes the chance of viewers moving on to other channels after they have viewed your content.

Why? Because playlists follow the same rules that Netflix: once one video ends, the next starts.

You’ve done all the work to help your viewer find your video. Click on it, and then watch the whole thing. Now it’s time to help them find the next video content.

7. Use cards and end screens to drive traffic to your videos

YouTubers have two tools they can use to bypass the algorithm: end screens and cards.

Cards can be clicked and interactively displayed at any point in the video. They come in a variety of formats that can be used for things like fundraising or selling merch, but in this case, we’re interested in increasing views, so choose a card that links to another one of your videos — or even better, playlists.

(Note: Cards are not available for use on videos designated as for children.

Cards are pop-ups so it is important to add value. It is not a good idea to spam viewers. You should link to videos and playlists that are relevant at the time. They should also provide entertainment or additional information.

Pro tip:You might consider inserting a hyperlink card if you notice a problem in retention or a drop-off in audience at a particular point in your video.

End screens, which are visual calls to action that you can add at the end of your video (in between 5 and 20 seconds), to encourage viewers to take the next step. These screens are valuable because they let you know that if someone has reached the end of your video, it is likely that they are interested in your excellent content.

End screens can be used to encourage viewers to subscribe or visit your site. If you are looking for more views, however, your end screen can be used to promote other videos or playlists.

You’ll need to add a few seconds to your video’s end screen if you want to use it.

8. 8.Don’t limit yourself to making how-to videos.

You’ll see lots of searches for your target keywords when you search them (as we did at point #3). (The title of the article included, ahem.). Because there is a lot of volume searching for how-to content.

While you need to work hard to get new viewers, it is equally important to reach the converts. Your brand’s value-added content on YouTube is the content that is relevant to your existing fans.

Youtube chef Tabitha Brown, for instance, doesn’t just share her vegan nachos recipe… she sits down with her husband to talk about their relationship, giving fans an intimate look into her personal life. If they get inspired to make their own guac, that’s a bonus. It’s an added bonus.

9. Create relationships with your viewers

“Audience engagement” is just another term for building relationships. This is a realistic, sustainable and organic way to increase YouTube views.

Engaging with other YouTubers (creators and commenters alike) will increase their interest in your brand and encourage them to subscribe (see #12) and watch more of you videos.

  • Run a YouTube contest
  • Make reaction videos
  • You can include other people’s content (with their permission).

10. Partner up

Perhaps you have a budget and can hire a creator who has a following. But if you’re a creator or aspiring influencer yourself, getting more views is your first step on the way to making money on YouTube, not spending it. If you’re in this situation, it is a good idea to partner up with like-minded creators.

Your potential partners should be very similar in terms of values, popularity and charm. You actually like them. You have fun together and that makes everyone happy. It’s easy, right?
